Tagum City holds Art in the Park

How do you break away from the stress brought about by the pandemic?

How about engaging in artistic endeavors?

This was the strategy used by Tagumenyo healthcare workers in cooperation with the Tagum City Historical and Cultural Center.

The Center organized its first-ever Art in the Park at Tagumpay Nature’s Park last August 27.

Tagum City Information Officer Edwin Lasquite said the event aimed to help targeted sectors deal with mental health concerns during these trying times.

Art in the Park is an ancillary event of the Center’s National Heroes Day celebration.

Five nurses, who were previously enlisted in the Center’s Art as a Tool for Therapy lecture by Resident Artist Victor Augustus Dumaguing, joined the art event.

Art therapy can improve your mental health because for me it relieves stress, enhances my mood and helps me to let go of my emotions,” City Health Office employee Trisha Jay Jao said.

Dumaguing spearheaded the lecture and art demo on the various ways to create art inlcuding self-portraits.

The participating healthcare workers were asked to paint their self-projection on canvas. Their collective output surprised everyone since prior to the event, all of the participants had little or no background in painting.

Their output will be among the art works that the Center will exhibit when it participates in the Mindanao Art Fair in October.(LL/TCHCC)
