Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte once again showed her mettle amid the political maneuvering as the 2022 elections nears.
“I refuse to be a political punching bag for a party in complete disarray,” Duterte said in a message posted in her official Facebook page.
With an apology to her mother for the statement, and for its consequences, Duterte urged her father President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, to man up and be upfront with the Filipino people as to their political plans.
“I strongly suggest to the President and Senator Go to own up publicly their decision to run as a tandem. If they can confirm it privately, then I do not see the reason why they canot be candid about it to the public,” she said.
“I respectfully advise them to stop talking about me and make me the reason for them running or not running,” she added.
Duterte said the president personally confirmed to her very recently about his and Go’s plan to run as Vice President and President respectively.
She said it was not a pleasant event as she was left with two letters—one explained why she should endorse the Go-Duterte tandem while the other suggested that she take in Go as her VP.
Duterte threw another another punch.
“Senator Pimentel and Mr. Ronwald Munsayac should stop blaming me for the sad state of their political party. It is not my fault that no one among you is a leader worthy of the respect of the majority. Do not blame me for the sitcom that your party has been reduced to.”
